Level 1 - Volleyball Coaching Program
The Level 1 coaching program is the principal entry point for most
coaches in the volleyball NCCP system. The program has three distinct
steps required for certification. Completion of each step also provides
the coach with one of three coaching "designations": In Training,
Trained, or Certified.
Step 1 - In Training: successful completion of the Level 1 Volleyball Course
This course has been designed to introduce the game of volleyball and
basic coaching concepts to novice coaches. Coaches will be expected to
participate in a series of learning experiences designed to assist them
in improving their volleyball coaching abilities and to have those
coaching abilities assessed throughout the course. These activities
represent the minimum standard for the training and certification of
Level 1 - Volleyball coaches within the NCCP.
Step 2 - Trained: successful completion of Competition: Part A Multi-Sport Modules
Coaches must undertake education and training in three multi-sport
modules: Making Ethical Decisions, Planning a Practice, and Nutrition.
These modules provide education and training in areas relevant to
coaches in all sports.
Step 3 - Certified: Portfolio and Evaluation Requirements
The final step in the Level 1 process is the development of a coaching
portfolio and the undertaking of a final evaluation. The portfolio
includes several assignments:
- Describing your coaching context.
- Developing an Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Observing another coach's practice session.
- Developing 40 hours of written and properly structured practice plans.
Completing the Level 1 coaching portfolio makes a coach eligible
for the final phase of the program - final evaluation. This process
involves being formally observed during a practice by a Level 1
Evaluator.

Level 2 - Beach Volleyball Coaching Program
The Level 2 coaching program is the second level in the volleyball NCCP
system and is recommended for Level 1 Certified coaches seeking
additional coach education, training, and certification. The program
has three distinct steps required for certification. Completion of each
step also provides the coach with one of three coaching "designations":
In Training, Trained, or Certified.
Step 1 - In Training: successful completion of the Level 2 Volleyball Course
This course has been designed to prepare Level 1 volleyball coaches to
develop players for competition at the provincial level. The course
focuses on helping coaches to more effectively train their athletes to
be competitive at a provincial championship. Coaches will be expected
to participate in a series of learning experiences designed to assist
them in improving their indoor volleyball coaching abilities and to
have those coaching abilities assessed throughout the course. These
activities represent the minimum standard for the training and
certification of Level 2 beach volleyball coaches within the NCCP.
Step 2 - Trained: successful completion of Competition: Part B Multi-Sport Modules
Coaches must undertake education and training in three multi-sport
modules: Designing a Basic Sport Program, Teaching and Learning, and
Basic Mental Skills. These modules provide education and training in
areas relevant to coaches in all sports.
Step 3 - Certified: Portfolio and Evaluation Requirements
The final step in the Level 2 process is the development of a coaching
portfolio and the undertaking of a final evaluation. The portfolio
includes several assignments:Describing your coaching context.
- Developing an Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Observing another coach's practice session.
- Observing another coach's match behaviours.
- Coaching at least 60 hours since completing the Level 2 beach course.
- Collecting a full season (minimum 60 hours) of written and properly structured practice plan
Completing the Level 2 beach coaching portfolio makes a coach
elegible for the final phase of the program - final evaluation. This
process involves being formally observed during a practice by a Level 2
Evaluator.

Level 3 - Beach Volleyball Coaching Program
The Level 3 coaching program is the third level in the volleyball NCCP
system and is recommended for Level 2 Certified beach coaches seeking
additional coach education, training, and certification. The program
has three distinct steps required for certification. Completion of each
step also provides the coach with one of three coaching "designations":
In Training, Trained, or Certified.
Typically only a limited number of coaches are allowed to enter into
the Level 3 program each year.
Step 1 - In Training: successful completion of the Level 2 Beach Volleyball Course
The Level 3 Beach Volleyball Course, attempts to build on the concepts
presented in the Level 2 Beach Volleyball Certification Program. This is
an advanced volleyball coaching course and is intended for coaches who
aspire to develop athletes and teams which will be competitive at
national level competitions (i.e. national championships). It deals
with advanced skill development, volleyball program management,
detailed seasonal planning, and the sequencing of training sessions.
Step 2 - Trained: successful completion of the six Competition - Development Multi-Sport Modules
Coaches must undertake education and training in nine multi-sport
modules: Managing Conflict, Leading Drug-free Sport, Psychology of
Performance, Coaching and Leading Effectively, Prevention and Recovery,
and Developing Athletic Abilities. These modules provide education and
training in areas relevant to coaches in all sports.
Step 3 - Certified: Portfolio and Evaluation Requirements
The final step in the Level 3 process is the development of a coaching
portfolio and the undertaking of a final evaluation. The portfolio
includes several assignments:Describing your coaching context.
- The compilation of player and physical testing data.
- Completion of a Yearly Training Plan (YTP).
- Developing an Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Collecting a full season (minimum 80 hours) of written and properly structured practice plans.
- Observing another coach's practice session.
- Observing another coach's match behaviours.
Completing the Level 3 coaching portfolio makes a coach elegible
for the final phase of the program - final evaluation. This process
involves being formally observed over the course of a season in a
minimum of three practice settings by a Level 3 Evaluator.
