ADP Information PDF Print E-mail

The Athlete Development Program (ADP) is geared towards the identification and development of young Ontario athletes. ADP represents a continuum of programming that will take our athletes from their introduction to the game (Mini-Volleyball) through to the Provincial Team.

Note: Any athlete that is interested in participating in ADP should read and be familiar with the OVA's Club Transfer / Athlete Free Agency Policy.

Every year thousands of young athletes from across the province participate in Skills/ Identification clinics that are run indoors and on the beach in each of the OVA’s six Regions as part of ADP.  At these clinics, athletes receive top level instruction and are identified to be part of the OVA's 18U Athlete Development Centres. In even numbered years the 18U athletes will train and compete in indoor volleyball and 20U athletes will compete in Beach Volleyball at the Ontario Summer Games.  In odd numbered years, the OVA will organize competitions to be held at the end of their corresponding Athlete Development Centres: 18U (see related pages for full details).

Regional Skills/Identification Clinics are generally run early in the calendar year. For information on getting involved, as well as times and locations of clinics in your area, contact your Regional ADP Chair or click here.

For further information on the "Spikes" Mini-volleyball Program, 18U High Performance Centre, Ontario Summer Games and Provincial Team please refer to those individual program pages.

The Athlete Development Program (ADP) also includes the following areas:

Skills Clinics / Camps
Get a recognized coach, or instructor to come out to your practice and assist your team, or group with their skill development - either indoor, or on the beach.  Clinics can be tailor-made to fit your requirements with some of the top coaches in the province leading the instruction.  Be as general, or specific as you like - from a 2 hour setters’ session, to a full day general skills clinic, the OVA office will create a program to suit your needs.  Call Ontario Volleyball for more information.  (These sessions are conducted on a user pay basis).

The OVA recognizes and sanctions a number of volleyball camps throughout the province.

Spikes Volleyball
As a leader in the promotion of volleyball development at the elementary school level, Ontario Volleyball has created a number of programs and resources to assist educators.  Mini-Volleyball is a method of teaching volleyball that can be adapted and modified to fit the needs of students from Kindergarten to Grade 8.  While not volleyball in the traditional sense, it involves motor skill development, modified games, activities and is FUN!!!  The prevailing philosophy is: participation + success = fun!

Programs / resources available:
- Clinics - offered through the OVA office.  Clinicians will be sent to your school / group and lead your classes in mini-volleyball sessions.
- Spikes On the Road volleyball tour - offered during the school yerar, top mini-volleyball clinicians are sent "on the road" to visit every corner of the province and deliver clinics to elementary schools.  Sessions are booked early on a first come, first served basis.
- Teachers’ workshops - using the mini-volleyball approach, Spikes Clinicians lead a 30 minute interactive workshop at your Spikes on the Road session.
- Spikes House League programs - start an Spikes house league program in your area. For more information, please visit the Spikes area of the OVA website.
- OVA Elementary School Lesson Plans - Now Available!!  Easy to follow lesson plans for teaching volleyball to students from Grade 1 through 8.  No previous volleyball experience required!  These lesson plans are an invaluable resource to any educator.
